5 Years Tick Tack: “Le nouveau Biedermeier” - Curated by Lisa Junghanß, 17.05—29.06.2024
Curated by Lisa Junghanß (Berlin, 1971), the exhibition delves into a new wave of conservatism in contemporary art and its potential pitfalls. Social media has fundamentally changed the dissemination of art, providing artists with a platform to instantly reach a global audience. However, this heightened visibility comes at a price: the pressure to conform to trends and gain social recognition. This conformity is reminiscent of 19th century Biedermeier — an artistic and cultural movement that heralded order and calm — and its self-censorship that undermined the ability of art to act as a catalyst for social change and to question and challenge prevailing ideologies.
Exhibition Opening: “Borderlines”, Brask HQ, Copenhagen
Explore contemporary art’s examination of human emotions and experiences through physical and metaphorical borderlines. From challenging traditional mediums to addressing social and political divisions, these artists push the boundaries of artistic expression. Contemporary art provides a platform for artists to delve into feelings and boundaries, fostering conversations and introspection among viewers. It encourages us to question preconceived notions and stimulates a deeper understanding of our complex world. Join us in celebrating the power of contemporary art to transcend borders, spark introspection, and foster connections.
Exhibition Duration May 3rd – May 31st
